Convergence across Russian Regions: A Spatial Econometrics Approach

نویسنده

چکیده

This paper analyses the process of convergence across the regions of Russia using spatial econometrics tools in addition to the traditional β -convergence techniques as derived from the neoclassical theoretical setting. The spatial component appears to be non-negligible and, consequently, conventional convergence estimates suffer a bias due to spatial dependence across observations. Furthermore, variables such as hydrocarbon supply, openness to trade and FDI per capita are found to have an unambiguous, positive and statistically significant impact on growth Results are also confirmed by the panel data specifications of the models.

Spatial Spillover Effect of Public Infrastructure in Different GDP Sector Compositions: Spatial Panel Evidence in Eu-28 Regions

Spillovers have attracted wide attention in the areas of research in economics during the past decades. The reason for the interest in the topic lies in their important role in endogenous growth theory and the explanation of productivity growth. This paper investigates the spatial spillover of different types of public infrastructure on economic growth across EU-28 NUTS-II regions during 1995-2...

Convergence in Per-capita Gdp across Eu- Nuts2 Regions Using Panel Data Models Extended to Spatial Autocorrelation Effects

This paper studies the long-run convergence of per-capita GDP across European regions. Most of the empirical works in this area are based on either cross-sectional or a-spatial panel data xed-e ects estimates. Here, we propose the use of panel data econometrics models that incorporate an explicit consideration of spatial dependence e ects (Anselin, 1988; Elhorst, 2001; 2003). This allows us to ...

The Evaluation of Suitability of Spatial Error STAR Model for Modeling Convergence of Social Welfare of Iran's Provinces

T he purpose of this paper is the evaluation of suitability ofspatial error STAR model for modeling convergence of social welfare of Iran's provinces between 2000 and 2013. In this paper the LM tests show that the non-linear method is appropriate for convergence evaluation. In addition, the results indicate that 2 groups of provinces are separable: group 1 in which the social welfare...
